Cramlington 2 Star Junior Tournament
Twelve year old Alec Ward from Middlesbrough was the star of the day at the Cramlington 2 Star Junior Tournament, winning the Under 13 Boys Singles, the Cadet Boys Singles and the Junior Boys Singles. He had little difficulty in taking the Under 13 title with an easy straight sets win over Joshua Harland of Cleveland in the final. In the Cadet Boys he defeated Northumberland’s Dean Richardson, again in straight sets but his best performance was in the Junior Boys. After winning his group, which included Northumberland’s Adam Curran, he easily beat Calum White of Cleveland and then put out local boy Ellis Cooper to set up a meeting with Northumberland’s top junior, Ryan Richardson in the final. This turned out to be a fantastic match with both players giving a tremendous effort. After swinging one and then the other the young Middlesbrough player edged home 12 – 10 in the fifth end.
The Junior Girls event was won by Eleanor Davidson of Cleveland with Durham’s Eszter Soos runner up. Davidson also beat Katie Barlow of Cleveland to win the Cadet Girls. Sophie Barlow won the under 13 girls and under 11 girls titles another Cleveland player, Will Dobinson took the under 11 boys title.
