Cramlington Cobras have reached the final of the Handicap Cup in the Northumbria League and will now meet the club’s Ravens in the final. In the semi final against Whitehouse Lane B they found themselves 3 – 1 down despite Gareth Pearson having won the first set of the night. Victories for Mohinda Rawat,twice, and Charlie Mouzon had put the Lane well ahead but John Morton pulled one back for the Cobras and the turning point came when Alan Hedley defeated Mouzon to level matters. Wins for Morton over Rawat and Pearson over Mouzon put them in the final.
Whitehouse Lane’s A team defeated Newcastle Community 8 – 2 in the clash of the top two teams in division one to ensure that they finished as winners of the division. Dave Pringle won all of his sets with Alex Smith and Mouzon getting two each as well as Smith and Pringle winning the doubles. Consolation for the Chinese side is that they finish as runners up and gain promotion to the Premier Division as Seaburn Dene lost 6 – 4 to the Whitehouse Lane B team.
Second Division Old England Jacks clinched promotion to the first division with a 7 – 3 victory when they visited third placed Mortimer, both Alan Atkinson and Lynne Herrington getting hat tricks. Matfen’s side of Phil Rainford, Chris Kilsby and Liz Gallagher defeated Birtley 7 – 3 and now look certain to accompany Old England into the first division.
The Old England Crocks team are promoted from the third division with Ouston B finishing as runners up after they drew their match away to Cramlington Knights. The Knights are still in danger of relegation as are YMCA North Tyneside C and all will depend on the match between the YMCA and Whitley Chapel.
In division four Matfen B beat Ouson C 8 – 2 whilst NESLC Codgers had a 10 – 0 victory away to Newton D which meant that the two teams finished level on point but Matfen win the division having had the better record in the matches between the two teams.
